Intent
The Computing Curriculum at Swanton Morley teaches pupils how to flourish in a connected world, developing their sensitivity to others online, treating them with respect and showing respect for their privacy. It aims to develop critical thinking and analytical skills and encourages pupils to use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs. Pupils are given opportunities to develop skills in using technology to organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. Implementation
The Computing units are taught as part of the thematic scheme of work provided by Dimensions’- Learning Means the World. Every year group develops knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Digital Citizenship
- Computer Science
- Data
- Information Technology
- Technical Vocabulary
- Multimedia
Every class has two scheduled hours per week where they can access the computing suite so that every child can have access to their own computer to work on. Teachers also make use of this resource across the curriculum with online research being used for History, Geography and English, online Maths programmes being used across year groups and publishing of final pieces of writing where appropriate.
Alongside our Computing curriculum from Dimensions, we also teach additional E-Safety lessons in every year group discretely. We aim to be proactive in supporting pupils to be safe whilst online and organise parent workshops on monitoring their children’s technology usage where appropriate.
Impact
Each term pupils are assessed using a point in time assessment. This helps teachers identify those pupils that are on track and those that require additional support.
